Changes in hormones may also result in sex dysfunctions. In women, decreased level of estrogen when a woman get to menopause may result in changes to her responsiveness to genital tissues and sex. At the same time, low levels of estrogen causes reduced blood flow to the pelvic region. This causes a woman to take more time to build arousal and reach orgasm. Also, low levels estrogen causes reduced genital sensations.

Hormonal changes in women may also cause the vaginal lining to become thinner as well as less elastic especially if the woman is not sexually active. As a result, the woman experiences pain during intercourse. Again, sex desire also goes down when the hormonal level goes down. Sex desire can also be affected after giving birth or during breast feeding as vaginal dryness may arise due to shift of hormone levels.

Attitudes toward sex may also lead to a fall in sex desire. This can be because of how people are brought up and their past bad experiences. Consequently, such individuals never perceive sex as an enjoyable and normal in a relationship. This could result in one relating sex to fear, anger, shame or guilt.

Premature ejaculation and erectile complications are the common sex disorders in men. Erectile disorders occur if a man is unable to get or sustain an erection. This is common to most men and could be as a result of psychological and physical problems.

Premature ejaculation, on the other hand, arises if a man ejaculates faster than he want during sex. It becomes a problem if it bother either the man, his partner or both. It is often caused by depression, stress, anxiety due to sex performance, and unresolved problems in a relationship.
