The history of professional wrestling is detailed as documented in some ancient writings and literary references. Professional fighting changed with time to what it is nowadays. At present professional fighting is a permanent job unlike in old days when it was taken as a leisure exercise. Fighting was a part time activity in various communities. It formed a very important part of many ceremonies and festival including initiation.



Cave drawings found in countries like France, Egypt, and Babylon date back in thirtieth century. The drawings depicted some of the holds used in current sport. It was a source of entertainment for various royal families including kings, queens, princesses, and paramount chiefs. Back then fighters fought fellow human beings and even beasts such as aggressive bulls.



The outcomes of current staged combat or wrestling are predetermined unlike before. Most competitions are organized by bodies such as International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles abbreviated as FILA and World Wrestling Entertainment shortened as WWE. These bodies comprise of technical teams whose job is creativity. They create and develop dramatic stories like feuds among fighters in order to make the matches interesting and leaving viewers in suspense to encourage watching.



Professional fighting in some countries such as Japan and Mexico do not follow a given plot. The matches are real competition with no predetermined outcomes. Matches or bouts in such nations are livelier as fighters are allowed to use all tactics including martial art strikes and submission holds. This makes the matches dangerous since fighters are more likely to get hurt or pick injuries.



One method of reducing instances of injury in this game is introducing law that requires wrestlers to be in protective gears prior to stepping inside the ring. The protective wear may include hand gloves and masks. The masks should have a soft inner layer to protect the wrestler from the impact of heavy blows. It also low chances of fighters picking basilar skull fractures.



The current and modified rules emphasize on skills rather than physical strength. Winning is based on the number of times that the wrestler will pin their opponent on the mat. This game is for both genders. Some of the techniques used in this sport are taught to members of the military and police as part of training. The skills acquired give them a better chance against their opponents in case of self defense.



Professional wrestling has a number of levels, which fighters strive to achieve. Every stage is marked by some sort of belt, which is presented to the winning fighter. Wrestling is recognized all over the World since it features among Olympic sports and games. During these competitions fighters of all ages and ranks are included and the winner in each category is awarded by the organizing bodies.



The history of professional wrestling comprises of the evolution and introduction of additional laws and styles in combat sport. As a combat sport it entails grappling methods like joint locks, pins, takedowns, clinch fighting, and grappling holds. Current, historic, and traditional styles are permitted in specific categories where the regulations allow. This sport borrows a lot from martial art. Partnership between wrestlers is allowed in some categories.
